8th Annual Broward Walk Now for Autism Increases Participation by Over 40%
The 8th annual Broward Walk Now for Autism took place on Saturday, April 12 under sunny skies at The Sherman Library Green at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fla. More than 5,000 walkers on over 240 teams participated, raising over $411,000.
Roxanne Vargas, NBC6/WTVJ news anchor, emceed and broadcast live from the Walk, and recapped the day's events on the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. news. Former Miami Dolphins Ed Perry, John Bock, Bill Davis and Bobby Harden joined current tight-end David Martin to sign autographs for fans. Broward County School Board Chair Robin Bartleman was also in attendance. Entertainment was provided by Maria Esther Lovero, who sang songs from her “Singing with a Purpose” album, Hip Hop Kidz dance group, Exceptional Theater Company, USK Karate, and Gary Gore, the Walk's resident deejay, who kept the crowd's energy level high.

The resource fair showcased 23 booths, including Toys”R”Us, Nutricia, Share a Pet, Eppy Financial Group, and Travel Ventures. A number of generous sponsors contributed to the success of the Broward Walk Now for Autism. Special thanks to National Walk sponsor Toys”R”Us for bringing Geoffrey the Giraffe and featuring the “10 Toys that Speak to Autism.” Nutricia handed out samples, LITE FM brought their promotional van and prize wheel, and NBC6 broadcast live from the event. Tunies Health Foods, Sysco, Celsius Energy Drink, Javamo Coffee, CH Robinson and Ben and Jerry's Ice cream provided great refreshments.
