6th Annual Iowa Walk Now for Autism Increases Funds Raised by 36%
Two days before the 6th Annual Iowa Walk Now for Autism, severe floods ravaged the area Des Moines area, necessitating a change in venue. Despite the last minute move, on Saturday, June 7, 2,500 people walked at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines, Iowa, representing a 25% growth in participation over last year's event. The walkers, on more than 100 teams, raised $194,000.
WHO TV 13's Megan Reuther, Erin Kiernan and Elizabeth Cling participated in the opening ceremonies and the Walk. Walkers enjoyed musical entertainment by the Central Iowa Blues Society. Children also enjoyed face painting and a visit from Toys”R”Us' Geoffrey the Giraffe.

The resource fair showcased eight organizations and companies, including The Miracle League Kiwanis, Karen DeFelice, author of “Enzymes for Autism and Other Neurological Conditions,” and Metro West Kids Learning Center.
Many generous sponsors contributed to the success of the Iowa Walk Now for Autism. Special thanks to silver sponsor the Grubb Foundation. Ten companies and organizations served as bronze sponsors, including Iowa Cubs, Homestead, Mercy, NCMIC Group, Sharpe Family Dental, Wellmark Blue Cross, BWA Foundation, Greek Food Fair, McAninch Corporation and JVC Builders. Blank Children's Hospital and Geo Learning contributed as Community Investors. Additionally, for the month of June, Long John Silver will donate a percentage of its Tuesday evening proceeds to the Iowa Walk.
