3,000 Walkers Raise $230,000 at Palm Beach Walk Now for Autism
The 8th Annual Palm Beach Walk Now for Autism took place under sunny skies on Sunday, March 2 at East Library Grounds in West Palm Beach, Fla. Over 3,000 attendees enjoyed the day's activities, representing a remarkable 50% increase in participation over 2007. Nearly 150 teams raised more than $230,000, surpassing last year's total.
Former NBC meteorologist Dean Tendrich served as the day's emcee, and Autism Speaks co-founders Bob and Suzanne Wright addressed the crowd. Suzanne energized the crowd for the upcoming Autism Speaks Weekin South Florida, while Bob spoke about the Autism Treatment Network.Closet Chronicles provided live entertainment, playing great rock and roll music. After the walk, Friends Special Needs Chorus sang for the crowd, and showed everyone the power of music in bringing together all kinds of people.

The resource fair featured 10 companies, including National Walk Sponsor Toys”R”Us, which presented “Ten Toys That Speaks To Autism,” Nutricia, which distributed samples, Eppy Financial Group, which gave out information on special needs estate planning, and Set to Go Bags, Inc., which showcased specialty bags of items geared towards children with different sensory issues.
Thanks to Palm Beach School for Autism, a $25,000 presenting sponsor, which provided a live band and other entertainment, as well as a team of wonderful volunteers. Additional thanks to Walk Chairs Denise Negron, Kate Cardenas and Susan Maxwell for making this walk so successful.
